Intrepid Group achieves Gold Accreditation from Zero Hours Justice for ethical and equitable business practices

Award from zero-hours campaign group recognises Intrepid's commitment to treating employees fairly.

Intrepid Group, the market leading retail and business security organisation, has been awarded the Zero Hours Gold Employer Accreditation by campaign group Zero Hours Justice. The award has been made in recognition of Intrepid's outstanding commitment to not using zero hours contracts for employees or contractor staff. To qualify, Intrepid also had to confirm it won't use third parties in its business operations that use zero-hour contracts.

Zero Hours Justice aims to achieve a complete ban on zero hours contracts in the UK. As part of this aim they are seeking to persuade as many organisations as possible to implement a variety of operational criteria, for example honouring pay on shifts that are cancelled with less than a fortnight's notice. Their Good Business Charter has been endorsed by both the CBI and TUC

A zero hour contract refers to any type of contract where the employer is not obliged to provide any minimum number of working hours to the employee, meaning employees' hours can vary week-on-week, from full shifts to none at all. Zero hour contracts are legal in the UK as long as the employer continues to abide by statutory rights afforded to all employees. These include the national minimum wage, paid holiday, and the right to take rest breaks.

Commenting on the accreditation, Intrepid Group CEO, Noel Verbruggen said; "I am pleased that Intrepid has achieved the Gold Standard in the Zero Hours scheme.  Any business is only as good as its employees, and treating employees fairly is both morally the right thing to do, and right for business success. A team that is invested in its organisation will work better. A team that doesn't have to worry about whether they will earn anything week-on-week can focus on working smarter. This applies to third party employees and contractors who can often be over-looked when organisations seek to ensure fair pay and conditions for staff.

Financial security is also fundamental to positive mental health and all employers should be focused on how they can help ensure the wellbeing of their teams.  I wish Zero Hours Justice every success in this campaign and hope many UK companies sign up and help end the scourge of zero hours contracts”.
