EAS RF FAQs
-
You’ll see the Optimum RF antenna installed all over the UK for a good reason: it’s easily the most popular choice for everyday retail security. It runs on the standard 8.2 MHz frequency, which makes it perfect if you're mostly protecting stock with RF paper labels or hard tags.
What retailers love about it is how flexible it is. If you have a small, narrow doorway, a single Mono antenna does the trick. But if you have a larger, wide open storefront, you can sync multiple antennas together to cover the whole space without any blind spots. It’s a great, straightforward setup whether you're running a fashion boutique, a grocery store, or an electronics shop. Just keep in mind that this is strictly a security system to stop shoplifting, unlike RFID, it doesn't track your inventory counts.

The interesting thing here is that underneath the hood, all 3 detection systems actually share the exact same high-performance electronics. So, you're getting the same reliable security regardless of which one you choose. The real difference comes down to your budget and the look of your store.
· Rondo RF: Think of this as our entry-level workhorse. It’s got a great new aluminium design in either grey or black, looks incredibly modern, and gives you great protection without blowing the budget.
· Optimum RF: This is the UK favourite we mentioned earlier. It’s the go-to if you need total flexibility, as we can scale it up from a single pedestal to a whole row of antennas to fit a massive entrance.
· X-Clear RF: If you want something that blends into the background, this is it. It features a premium, full-acrylic ‘plexi’ frame available in crystal-clear or sleek black, giving you a high-end, discreet look that doesn't block the view into your shop.

It's actually pretty straightforward. The antennas by your exit doors create an invisible radio field operating at 8.2 MHz. Inside your stock, you have RF tags or paper labels. If a customer pays for an item, the cashier quickly deactivates the label at the till, and the customer walks out smoothly. But if an active, live tag passes through those exit doors, the antenna picks up the signal right away and triggers the alarm to let your team know.
This setup is massive in grocery and food retail because RF paper labels are incredibly thin and discreet. You can stick them directly onto food packaging or barcode labels without hiding the branding or looking bulky, making it an easy, seamless way to protect high-theft items on the shelves.

It mostly comes down to the low cost and flexibility of the tags. Clothing stores have to protect a massive variety of stock, and RF technology lets you mix and match incredibly affordable options, like tough hard tags for garments and cheap, sticky RF paper labels for accessories.
The hardware itself is very budget-friendly too. If you’re a smaller independent boutique, a system like the Rondo RF gives you reliable protection without a massive upfront bill. It keeps your initial setup costs down, but easily scales up if you're managing a larger, multi-entrance clothing chain.

Yes, absolutely. The Optimum RF system is incredibly flexible when it comes to layout. If you have a small, narrow door frame, a single Mono antenna is all you need. But if you have a wide, open storefront, you can easily line up and link two components together. This lets you cover the entire exit from edge to edge, ensuring you get great detection right across the floor without any frustrating blind spots.

The core difference lies in the specific frequency and application. AM systems run at 58 kHz and are great if you are dealing with heavy metals or liquids, but RF runs at 8.2 MHz and is the go-to for everyday high-street retail.
Because we use the same high-performance electronics across our whole RF range, you get great detection regardless of the model you pick. Retailers usually choose RF labels when they want a cost-effective setup that lets them use thin, affordable paper labels, making it the dominant choice for clothing, apparel, and grocery retail.

Choosing an 8.2 MHz RF EAS system gives you a reliable, low-maintenance way to protect your stock over the long haul. The biggest benefits include:
· Incredible tag flexibility: You can easily mix and match different EAS tags depending on what you're selling, from tough hard tags for clothes, specialised soft labels for sunglasses, to thin paper labels for boxed items.
· Highly cost-effective: Both the antennas and the everyday labels are very budget-friendly, keeping your ongoing costs down as you restock.
· Versatile stock protection: It works beautifully across a massive range of merchandise, whether you need to secure high-theft apparel, electronics, food packaging, cosmetics, or DIY tools.
· Loss prevention: Having those visible antennas at the door acts as an anti-theft system, stopping potential theft before it happens, protecting your profit margins and keeping your shelves full.
