The use of CCTV camera surveillance is a common feature in everyday life. The Information Commissioner's Office have issued a new Code of Practice for CCTV use, which provides good practice advice for those involved in operating CCTV and other devices which veiw or record images of individuals. The code is primarily aimed at business and organisations who routinely capture images of individuals on their CCTV equipment. The use of cameras for limited householed purposes is excempt from the DPA. This applies where an individual uses CCTV to protect their home from burglary, even if the camera overlooks the street or other areas near their home.
